Latest news about the student sports associations and competitions

One of the main focus points of the MUSST board of 2022-2023 is social safety. To this effect, several steps have been taken. For example, workshops have been provided for boards of student sports associations and UM SPORTS employees. Besides, together with the UM Psychologists, trainings have been offered for students willing to become a confidential contact person for SSAs.

Alongside these steps, a workgroup consisting of SSA board members, confidential contact persons, MUSST and UM SPORTS has worked on creating a Code of Conduct. This Code of Conduct has come into effect as of June 2023.

Please find the Code of Conduct here.

While important steps have been made, we are also aware that creating a socially safe environment for sports is a process that is never finished. Therefore, we will continue to work on this in the future.

MUSST is looking for fast runners to join the UM Team at the Batavierenrace 2023

The Batavierenrace is the largest relay race in the world. This year it takes place on 28 and 29 April 2023. Over the course of two days, a distance of 175 km between Nijmegen and Enschede is covered by teams consisting of 25 runners. Each stage is between 4 and 10 km.

Also this year Maastricht University will participate in the Batavierenrace, more specifically in the prestigious university competition. We battle against teams of the other universities to aim to become the best student city in the Netherlands!

MUSST is looking for enthusiastic runners to form the official Maastricht University Team in the Batavierenrace.

The Bata, as this event is also called, is the largest relay race in the world. On 28 & 29 April 2023 the team runs from Nijmegen to Enschede, which has a total distance of 175km. This distance is subdivided into 25 stages, which means each individual runner runs between 4 and 10km. This year, the event will hopefully take place physically, so we will travel to Nijmegen to join this spectacular event. On Saturday evening, the event will end with the biggest student party of the Netherlands, so of course you also do not want to miss out on this part.

Every year Maastricht University will recruit the best runners from Maastricht to form a team. This team then participates in that prestigious University competition with the aim of becoming the best student city in the Netherlands. Moreover, the runners of the UM team can join for free!

A lot of young people feel lonely during these times, so we should support each other with #eenkleingebaar.

Unfortunately, we are not able to do sports together as usual now that the lockdown has been extended. Especially in these times it is important to keep thinking about each other and to do that little bit extra for your sports buddies, teammates and other friends. Due to the little social contact in these times, the mental health of many students is under pressure. During this difficult period, let us pay extra attention to each other and support each other! ??

The MUSST joined up with Student Sports Netherlands and other sports councils in Dutch cities to create a campaign that aims to create awareness of loneliness among students. Lots of us are currently stuck in our room, following online classes, without being able to do sports or meet up with friends. With this campaign we hope to spread the idea that a small gesture can make a big difference to your friends, whether it's sending a small card, hosting an online dinner or playing online games.

Will you also participate in the campaign by @studentsportsmaastricht , Student Sports Netherlands and the Dutch government?

Show on your social media what you do for the people around you during these times with the #eenkleingebaar and tag @studentsportsmaastricht @studentensportnederland so you can inspire others to join!

The MUSST board would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

We hope to see all of you fit and healthy in a hopefully sporty 2021.
